Let’s quickly dive into our motion sensor nomenclature, and how to read our part numbers so you can confidently select the right control for your fixture.
All motion sensor part numbers start with “MS” for Motion Sensor. Following “MS” are two numbers, which represent the timing that they were added to our product line.
Next, you’ll see a technology abbreviation, indicating the type of detection used:
MW – Microwave: Detects motion through small changes in frequency and is ideal for enclosed areas or where coverage behind objects is needed.
PIR – Passive Infrared: Detects heat signatures and is best suited for open areas with clear lines of sight.
The next set of letters indicates the mounting type:
TW – Twist-in Sensor: Compatible with select CSC LED luminaires equipped with twist-in receptacles.
HW – Hard Wired: Typically used for internal mounting within the driver compartment of the luminaire.
KN – Knockout: An externally mounted option that attaches through a knockout on the luminaire housing.
Finally, the suffix identifies the power requirement:
DC – Direct Current
AC – Alternating Current
So, for example, a part number like MS01-MW-HW-DC tells you it’s a microwave sensor, added in the first round of production, hardwired, powered by direct current.

Motion sensors are a simple yet powerful way to enhance energy efficiency, security, and automation in both commercial and industrial settings. They detect movement and automatically activate or dim lighting, ensuring light is only used when needed.
Here’s why they’re a must-have in today’s LED lighting design:
Energy Savings: Reduce energy consumption by automatically turning lights off in unoccupied spaces.
Extended Fixture Lifespan: By minimizing run time, motion sensors help extend LED life and reduce maintenance costs.
Improved Safety & Security: Ensure instant illumination in areas like corridors, stairwells, and parking lots, providing safety for workers and visitors.
Motion sensors are ideal for areas where lighting needs vary based on occupancy or activity level, including:
Warehouses and manufacturing facilities
Parking garages and outdoor walkways
Offices, classrooms, and meeting rooms
Utility and maintenance spaces
Whether you’re designing for efficiency, compliance, or comfort, incorporating motion sensors ensures your lighting system is responsive, cost-effective, and smart.
At CSC LED, we’re proud to offer reliable, easy-to-install motion sensors that integrate seamlessly with our luminaires. From PIR to Microwave options and hardwired to twist-in configurations, we’ve got the right control solution for every project.
Stay efficient. Stay smart. Choose CSC LED motion sensors.
