When a residential property invests in renovations, the details matter—and few upgrades make a bigger impact than exterior lighting.
As part of a broader revitalization effort, Cambridge Grand, a residential building in Cambridge, Ontario upgraded its outdoor lighting to improve visibility, enhance safety, and elevate the overall resident experience. What was once a collection of aging fixtures became a cohesive lighting solution that now guides residents home, highlights key property features, and creates a more inviting atmosphere after dark.
From parking areas and emergency exits to entrance signage, recreational spaces, and the main building entrance, every fixture was selected with purpose. The result is a property that not only looks refreshed but functions better for the people who use it every day.
Through a combination of wall packs, canopy lights, flood lights, security lighting, and decorative pole tops, this retrofit demonstrates how thoughtful lighting can transform an entire property—not just individual spaces.
Like many established residential properties, Cambridge Grand's existing outdoor lighting had begun to show its age. Older fixtures can often result in inconsistent illumination, reduced visibility, increased maintenance requirements, and a dated appearance that doesn't reflect ongoing investments made throughout the property.
As renovations progressed, upgrading the exterior lighting became a natural next step.
The goal was straightforward:
Improve visibility around the property
Enhance safety and security for residents and guests
Modernize the appearance of exterior spaces
Create a more welcoming environment after dark
Support multiple outdoor applications with reliable LED lighting solutions

The difference between the property's previous lighting and the upgraded LED solutions highlights how impactful exterior lighting can be in both appearance and performance.
One of the unique aspects of this project is how many different lighting applications were addressed across a single property. From entrances and emergency exits to signage and utility areas, each location required a fixture suited to its specific purpose.
Together, the selected lighting solutions create a cohesive exterior lighting system that improves visibility throughout the site while maintaining a consistent aesthetic. By incorporating several fixture types across the property, the Cambridge Grand retrofit illustrates how CSC LED's diverse product offering can support a wide range of outdoor applications within a single project, helping create a seamless lighting experience of an entire property.
Application: Building perimeter and emergency exits
To improve perimeter illumination and exterior exits visibility, twenty black 40W Keystone Wall Packs were installed throughout key exterior locations across the property. Mounted
Perimeter lighting serves several important functions, helping residents navigate exterior pathways, improving visibility around the building envelope, and supporting a safer environment after dark. Side exits also benefit from well-lit surroundings, ensuring clear visibility when it matters most.
The upgraded fixtures provide clean, consistent illumination while complementing the building's updated exterior appearance.
Application: Pool house exterior and interior outdoor pool area
The property's pool area received four black 20W MWP04 Mini Wall Packs, with two fixtures installed at the entrance of the pool house and two positioned within the outdoor pool area.
Recreational amenities often see use during early mornings, evenings, and throughout changing seasons, making dependable lighting an important consideration. Proper illumination helps improve visibility around entry points and gathering areas while creating a more welcoming atmosphere for residents.
Compact in size but effective in performance, these fixtures provide targeted illumination without overpowering the surrounding space.
Application: Outdoor garage and utility storage building
A single SS02 Security Light was installed above the outdoor garage and utility storage building located within the parking area.
Service and storage spaces are often overlooked during lighting upgrades, yet they play an important role in overall property safety and functionality. Proper illumination helps improve visibility around access points while supporting day-to-day maintenance operations.
The result is a brighter, more visible utility area that remains functional and accessible after dark.
Application: Property entrance signage
First impressions begin before residents and visitors even enter the property.
To enhance visibility at the main entrance, two bronze 15W FLM02 Mini Flood Lights were installed to illuminate the property's entrance signs, with one fixture dedicated to each sign. Sign lighting serves both practical and aesthetic purposes. It improves visibility for arriving guests while helping reinforce the property's identity during evening hours.
The focused illumination highlights the signage without excessive light spill, ensuring the entrance remains clearly visible and inviting.
Application: Entrance sign columns
Complementing the illuminated signage are four 35W PTA02 Pole Tops, installed atop the concrete columns surrounding the entrance signs.
With two fixtures positioned at each entrance sign, the pole tops add a decorative lighting element that helps define the property's entrance while contributing additional ambient illumination.
Together with the flood-lit signage, the pole tops create a polished arrival experience that enhances the property's curb appeal after sunset.
Application: Building entrance canopy
The main building entrance was upgraded with four 40W CP03 Canopy Lights installed beneath the entrance canopy.
Entrances are among the most important areas of any residential property. Residents, visitors, deliveries, and service personnel all rely on clear visibility when entering and exiting the building.
Well-designed canopy lighting helps improve safety, visibility, and overall comfort while creating a welcoming first impression.
The upgraded canopy lighting delivers bright, even illumination throughout the entrance area, helping residents feel comfortable and confident when arriving home after dark.
Exterior lighting is often one of the most noticeable upgrades a property can make.
When thoughtfully planned, lighting contributes to:
Improved resident and visitor safety
Enhanced visibility throughout the property
Better wayfinding and navigation
Increased sense of security
Reduced maintenance requirements
Stronger curb appeal and property presentation
The Cambridge Grand project demonstrates how a lighting upgrade can positively impact multiple areas of a property simultaneously, from entrances and recreational spaces to signage, utility areas, and emergency exits.
Every area of a property serves a different purpose, which often means a single fixture type isn't enough to address every lighting requirement effectively.
This project showcases how combining wall packs, mini wall packs, security lights, flood lights, pole tops, and canopy fixtures can create a complete exterior lighting solution tailored to the needs of the space.
At Cambridge Grand, each fixture was selected to support a specific application while contributing to a cohesive lighting design across the property.
The Cambridge Grand outdoor lighting retrofit is a great example of how modern LED lighting can transform a property beyond simple illumination. By improving visibility, enhancing key areas, and supporting a safer environment, the upgraded lighting helps residents enjoy the property both day and night.
